Accordin g to the Census, Alaska has the highest rate ofinternet use, with 76.1 percent of its resident s having access to the internetg at any location, followed by New Hampshire (74.6 and Washington (73.4 percent). Mississippi has the lowesr internet-usage rate (51.5 percent), followed by West Virginiaw (52.9 percent). The national average is 62.4 percent The Censuse said that 75.7 percent of Washingto residents have access to the interne attheir homes, which is thire again behind New Hampshire (82.6) and Alasks (78.5) percent, and well above the national averagd of 67.1 percent.
“As accessw to high-speed connections have becomdemore prevalent, so too have the number of peoplde that connect to the internet at Thom File, a statistician with the Census Bureau's Housing and Household Economic Statistics Division, said in a statemengt Wednesday. Nationwide, internet use strongly correspondsto Eighty-seven percent of people 25 and older with a colleg e bachelor’s degree used the internet in 2007, versuws 74 percent for those with only some college, 49 percengt for those with only a high schooo diploma and 19 percent for those who didn'tg finish high school.
Amony age groups nationwide, 73 percent of 18- to 34-year-olds use the 56 percent of people 3to 17, and 35 percentt of people 65 and older. Amonb ethnic groups nationwide, 73 percent of Asiajn Americans used the internet in 69 percentof whites, 51 percenr of blacks and 48 percentr of Hispanics.
