Marquette launches water law curriculum - The Business Journal of Milwaukee:

The curriculum is another step in solidifying Milwaukee as a global leader in water research and policy and will addreszs the ongoing and emerging legal issues posed by thewatee industry, university officials said. The curriculum will include a course specializinfg in the legal principles involvedin allocating, transferring, managing and adjudicating water rights for public and privatse uses. It will also include courses onadministrativse law, patent and trade secret law, environmental policyg and philosophy, land use planning, natural resources law and agriculturer law, among others.
“Establishing a specific watefr law program for students is anothe r piece to the larger puzzle of positioningt the Milwaukee region as the worldwide destination for watefr policyand research,” said Joseph dean of the Marquette University Law School. Richard Meeusen, chairman, president and CEO of and co-chairmab of the Milwaukee 7 Water Council, said the curriculu is a “vital addition to an already solid progra m that positions the Milwaukee regiobn as the worldwater hub.
” “To trulyh lead, the Milwaukee region has to have the talent and expertis e in all areas of including the legal aspect of water issues, which will keep growing in significance,” Meeusen The water law curriculum is an example of an industry-universityh collaboration that will prepare students to becomw leaders with the specialized expertise necessary to make this region the leader in the water industry, said Paul chairman and CEO of and co-chairman of the Milwaukee 7 Water Council.
“Marquette Law Schoopl has stepped in and filled a real need as we assembld all the parts needed to make the Milwaukee region the world water hub for freshwater economic development, education and, in the law,” Jones said.
