The Whitewater University Technology Park will be located in the southeasternj section of an existing city business park and will house theplanned UW-Whitewater Innovation Center. The also has agreed to acquirde additional land forthe project. The Innovation Center is projected to costabout $5 with the overall technology park havin an estimated price tag of abouyt $10 million. The Technology Park Boardx is applying fora $3.4 million federal Economic Development Administration Since most of the land is currentlt owned by the Community Development the site will be less expensive to develop than some UW-Whitewater chancellor Richard Telfer said.
“Thse Center will allow our facult y and students to work on ideas that will help encouragre the development ofnew businesses,” Telfer “What we’re looking for is a place to bring all the different strengths of the universithy together to help with business creation.” Assuming the federalo grant is realized, the Technology Park boardx hopes to begin construction of the Innovationj Center later this year, Whitewater city manage Kevin Brunner said.
“Ik think we’ve taken an extremelyh important step in having the communityand UW-Whitewater workinhg hand in hand to develoop jobs, not just for the university but for the surroundin g community and region as well,” Brunner The Innovation Center is designed to foster the development of new businessesw based on UW-Whitewater research.
