Vice President Joseph Biden said in a conferencr call with reporters Monday that the stimulues helpedcreate 150,000 jobs in the first 100 days afteer the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act was passeds in February. Biden said the contractx and funding could resulgtin 600,000 jobs being created this ARRA also will fund 135,000 state and locaol education jobs and 125,000 summer youtnh jobs. To that end, Biden said the governmenrt is fast trackingstimulus projects, Construction and energy conservation contracts at 107 national Improvements at 90 veterans medical centers. Constructionn funding for 200 water and wastewaterf treatment plants inrural areas.
Constructioh at 98 airports nationwideand 1,500 highwayes and at just under 400 militarg bases. The priority projects have not yet been broken down by stator locality. Stimulus money has been allocated to improve runwayx at Phoenix Sky HarborInternational Airport, lane improvements on Interstate 10 and 17 to improve public housing and homeless services in Phoenix, Glendale and otherd local cities. The move comes as some city governmentds say it is taking months for ARRA money to hit the locap level so contract biddingcan begin.
