Firm moves to secure future - Kansas City Business Journal:

The computer networking firm has formeed a new division that will focu onnetwork security. In addition to providin encryption methods, firewalls and other relativeluy simple security methods Alexander Open Systemsalreadyh provides, the new division will specialize in more sophisticated security fixes. Duncaj Alexander, who will run the securityg division, said the idea for the new divisionj grew out of an increasingv number of customer requests for the moresophisticatefd security. The company couldn't deal in that levelk of security without focusing resourceson it, Alexander "You can only be as good as the best perso n out there who's attacking you," Alexander said.
The company will concentrate on "finding out where the holes are and findingh out what needs to be done totracko those." Some newer "intrusion applications not only detect breaches in security, they reacg to them. "It could have artificial intelligencwe to not onlystop (a hacker), but attack them rightf back," Alexander said. CEO Gary Alexandet said the security division will concentratee on luring customers from within the KansaeCity area. Alexander Open Systems has 63 20 more than oneyear ago. The security division has two Chuck Vanasse, founder and past chairmanm of Unicom Communications Inc., has a new job with BV Solutionsw Group.
Vanasse, who stepped down from Unicom'e day-to-day operations last year, said he will lead the marketinb effort forBV Solution'sa Internet business. Black & Veatch formed BV Solution s this year by spinning its informatio n technology department into aseparatse company. Black & Veatch officials expect the new entity to generatse revenueof $100 million in three to four years and grow from 400 to 1,000 employees. Vanasse also is behincd a new Internet compan ycalled WorldHousing.com, which operates a Web portal for the housinhg industry.
